The project brings together leading Danish and International expertise to address several outstanding issues in groundwater remediation of contaminated sites. It consists of 4 work packages related to specific contamination issues and 2 methodological work packages designed to provide state of the art tools for managing challenging remediation problems.
Specifically, the project aims to:

Develop new techniques for accelerated removal of contaminants form clays and low permeability media;

Develop bioremediation methods for treatment of chlorinated solvents;

Optimize methods for the treatment of source zones contaminated with complex mixtures of chemicals;

Develop and test methods for the stabilization and risk control of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and mobile heavy metals.
These 4 aims will be complemented by two broader integrating aims:
